Train to compete in our Youth Club Team. We practice on Lake Quinsigamond - one of the best rowing venues in the country. We are open to athletes from Worcester and surrounding communities, grades 8 – 12.
We serve athletes from schools including:
Algonguin | Assabet | Auburn | Burncoat | Doherty |
Hopkinton | Millbury | Nashoba | North | Tech |
Wachusett Regional | Westborough | And more…
We offer both and Varsity and Novice programs with some including Scull and Sweep rowing. Click HERE for newly updated 2026 Parent Handbook to see all the details of our program.
Since we are a community-based program, need-based financial assistance is available. Also, due to the generosity of past alumni, scholarship funds are available to all Worcester Public High School athletes. These funds are used to lower their season tuition fee.

Pre-Season Parent/Athlete Meeting
There is a mandatory informational video-conferencing meeting for all Team parents and athletes on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 6:30pm.
This meeting will be conducted via GoogleMeet, so video/audio/wi-fi capabilities will be needed. As back-up, there will also be a dial-in number. Participants will receive the meeting link in a welcome email. You must be registered for the team to receive the link.
Spring 2026 Season
Practice times: Monday – Friday, 4:00 – 6:30pm
Season dates: Monday, March 23 - Friday, May 22, 2026.
Season tuition covers racing entry fees, coaching and equipment costs and facilities upkeep. Rowers are responsible for their team race uniforms and US Rowing memberships. Other gear and possible race travel will be assessed separately throughout the season.
TRYOUTS
New athletes looking to join the team will join the regular team practice starting on Monday, March 23. Candidates should expect to attend all practices for the first week. Along with the entire team, they will be evaluated on overall fitness/coordination and their ability to learn proper erg techniques.
New athletes must register in advance to attend these tryouts. There is no cost for these tryouts but, if selected, tuition payment will be due before the athlete can attend their first official practice.
Who should consider joining the team?
Ask your athlete.
Are they willing to work hard and push themselves beyond their comfort zone?
Do they enjoy being on the water with a sense of speed?
Are they seeking more camaraderie and bonding with their teammates?
Do they wish to re-ignite their motivation and passion for a sport?

Youth Team FAQ
Not necessarily, but a strong athletic background/base level of fitness is required. We are a strenuous sport with a relatively short season. This demands some pre-conditioning to effectively keep up with the practice training and racing.
Required or strongly recommended for shoulder season, outdoor sport:
-
Sneakers for land-based training, as well as easily-removable shoes such as crocs or slides for the dock.
-
Socks (rowing shoes are shared).
-
Sunscreen, sun protecting hat (for hot/sunny days), head warming hat (for cold days), waterproof layers (for rainy days).
-
Tight fitting, weather appropriate, synthetic "tech/performance" clothing. No baggy t-shirts or hoodies. No tops with open pockets. Cotton is not a good fabric for clothing in colder weather. Clothing needs will adapt as the seasons change. Think layers.
-
A refillable plastic water bottle. You can also use a metal water bottle if it is covered in soft material, such as a thick sock. This is necessary to protect the inside of the boat. NO GLASS.
-
Extra clothes. Sometimes boats flip or it rains. Athletes will be much more comfortable if they have a dry outfit to change into.
-
A snack for energy to be consumed before or after practice (not during).
-
Any required medical supplies.
-
Check with your school's Athletic Director. We are a club competitive sports program that usually fulfills a school's requirements for physical education. We provide verification letters, if required.
Athletes should arrive ready to be challenged. They will spend a good amount of time on the erg to evaluate form/coordination and current aerobic fitness. They will also participate in some strength and plyometric exercises (push ups, sit ups, squats, etc) to determine their current state of body conditioning. Depending on weather, there could be some outdoor running, as well. They should plan to attend all practice sessions during the first week.
