What is Deckhands?
Deckhands is Regatta Point’s after school sailing program. It runs during the Spring and Fall from 4 to 5:30pm. The Deckhands Program runs for 6 sessions. Whether your child is an experienced sailor or just starting out, Deckhands provides an opportunity to learn or advance sailing skills while working with other kids in a cooperative environment.
“Safety, Fun, and Learning” is the motto that guides all of our children’s programs. In addition to following the best practices for physical waterfront safety (like wearing life jackets at all times), we also try to create an environment where kids feel welcomed. Since our program allows each participant to skipper their own boat, kids learn to challenge themselves, be creative, and gain self-confidence. Sailing also provides the opportunity for kids to experience the practical application of science and math.
Deckhands participants learn:
Participants in Deckhands Sailing must be 9 years of age by the start date of the program. You must sign off that your child is able to swim 75 yards and tread water for 3 minutes. If you are unsure, seek a local agency like the YMCA for a swim test or lessons.
Participants in the Guppy Deckhands Sailing must be 7 years of age by the start date of the program. You must sign off that your child is able to swim 25 yards and tread water for 1 minutes.
If you are unsure, seek a local agency like the YMCA for a swim test or lessons.
